LAKELAND - High school students will learn about potential careers, take part in hands-on experiences, and connect with local employers at the Lakeland Student Trades Fair being held in Bonnyville in April.

Lakeland Catholic School Division and Northern Lights Public Schools are hosting the two-day event, which is sponsored by Strathcona Resources Ltd. Geared towards students in grades 9 through 12, the trades fair will feature booths from various organizations from across the Lakeland and will introduce students to the unique career opportunities in rural Alberta, allow them to ask questions, try aspects of the trade, and discover their future career. Students will also be able to explore post-secondary learning opportunities.

“We’re thrilled about the upcoming Lakeland Student Trades Fair, where students will have the chance to explore diverse trades by asking questions and work with some of the tools of the trade. Our families have expressed a desire for students to learn more about their career options after high school, and we can’t think of a better way to showcase the various pathways our students can take than through a trades fair,” said Meagan MacEachern, Communications Officer for Lakeland Catholic. “This is an incredible opportunity for us to work with Northern Lights and community partners and highlight trades found throughout the Lakeland.”

“The participants in our previous Trades and Industry Carnival indicated that they would like to see the event expanded to include more students and more exhibitors,” said Karen Draycott, NLPS Director of Learning - Grades 7 to 12 Instructional Support. “We are excited to partner with Lakeland Catholic and Strathcona to showcase the many career opportunities that are available and help students explore their options.”

The trades fair will take place on April 16 and 17 at the Bonnyville and District Centennial Centre.
